This Fall's Shoes
I was going to write about style as a whole regarding this Autumn, but it was actually a shit show due to the amount there is to know. Therefore, this entry will translate how and what you should be looking for stepper wise to not only compliment your fall wardrobe, but also balance your proportions correctly in the seasons to follow.
You will notice that color wise, we are leaning neutral, however, silhouette wise, we are gravitating towards shapes with a point of view. Colors of interest include: Taupe, Cream, White, Black, Grey, Brown, and potentially a Khaki Green if it feels right.
Our shoes are the grounding element of our look, they either soften any harsh contrast within our garments, or they sharpen the lazy look.
I'm feeling pulled more towards feminine silhouettes that communicate a clean, put-together, quiet vibe.
Yes, I love a good Tabi, but I am aiming to guide you towards curating the perfect base/forever pieces that will maximize your personal style for life. So don't buy Tabis. Instead, were investing in the stuff that's classic and timeless but not fucking boring.
Prioritize a ballet flat, a non-chunky loafer, a pointed toe boot, a square toed flip flop, an interesting mule, and a modern sneaker.
Look for delicate toes - this is the same concept as showing you have a tiny waist. In the midst of the cold, we tend to hide our entire figures, losing confidence in our lust. However, we can allude to the idea that we are not as big as our oversized sweater by mixing in elements of "slim". A small ballet flat peaking out of our big baggy jeans speaks quaint, put-together, and thoughtful, while also appearing like you didn't even try.
That also falls in line with not being so literal when it comes to matching your shoes with your outfit. The "wrong shoe theory" is correct. If your wearing leggings, reach for a flat or flip flop. Trousers? reach for a sneaker not a loafer. This is what creates balance and style - don't wear cowboy boots with flare jeans. The goal is to not look like you are wearing a costume.
Attached are examples of shoes and brands that I am attracted to. I fought against my urge to link The Row and Khaite, you're welcome. Of course, after you've invested in the must-haves, you are free to splurge all of your money on the fun, trendy, pops of color. I know i'm going to.
Obviously, take this as you will; either as a source of inspiration that you can communicate through your own personal style, or take it right of the mannequin (this entry). Either way, the point is to not only feel like yourself this winter arc, but to begin building the base to your wardrobe that you can easily decorate with pieces of you.
